Soviet Russia
Before Power
Joseph Stalins Ruling Over Soviet Russia |
Stalin believed that the Soviet Union's should be transformed from a peasant farm society into an industrial one with his 5 year plan. He wanted the government to have control over everything. If anyone opposed his beliefs, he would have them killed them or sent them to labor camps. During his reign of terror, he created the Great Purge. This was a time when he tried to get rid of all of the Communist party, including those people he believed were a threat to him.
Soviet Russia During World War II
In 1939, Joseph Stalin signed a nonaggression pact that would last 10 years with the dictator of Germany, Adolf Hitler. However, Hitler broke this pact in 1941 when he invaded the USSR (Union of Soviet Socialist Republics). Stalin was told by many people this was going to happen but he ignored them all; he even knew the Soviet army wasn't prepared for something like this. As the Germans approached Soviet Russia, Stalin directed everyone to destroy any supplies or infrastructure that might help the Germans. Everything changed for Russia after the Battle of Stalingrad (1942-1943) because the Red Army defeated the Germans helped drive them out of Russia.
